Canadian billionaire Frank Stronach, founder of Magna International Inc., has been charged in connection with a series of alleged sexual assaults spanning over four decades, Peel Regional Police announced on Friday. The 91-year-old businessman from Aurora, Ontario, faces multiple charges, including rape, indecent assault on a female, forcible confinement, and two counts of sexual assault. These charges relate to incidents that allegedly occurred between the 1980s and 2023.
Police have provided limited details about the investigation, citing the need to protect the victims’ identities and maintain the integrity of the judicial process. In an email to CTV News Toronto, Const. Tyler Bell-Morena of Peel police emphasized the significant public interest in the case but confirmed that no further information would be disclosed at this time.
Stronach, who was arrested on Friday, has since been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in a Brampton court at a later date. His lawyer, Brian Greenspan, issued a statement on his behalf, asserting that Stronach “categorically denies” the allegations. Greenspan stated that Stronach looks forward to fully responding to the charges and defending his legacy as a philanthropist and a prominent figure in the Canadian business community.
Magna International Inc., the global automotive parts manufacturer Stronach founded, also responded to the news. A company representative informed CTV News Toronto that Magna had no prior knowledge of the investigation or the allegations. The representative clarified that Stronach has had no affiliation with the company since relinquishing control in 2010. Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, Magna declined to provide further comment.
Similarly, The Stronach Group, an entertainment and real estate development company also founded by Stronach, released a statement acknowledging awareness of the charges. The company noted that Stronach has not held a formal role or been involved in its operations
