Heat Wave in Ontario, Quebec, and Maritimes Shows Signs of Easing
TORONTO — Relief is on the horizon for residents of Eastern Canada, as the intense heat wave affecting Ontario, Quebec, and parts of Atlantic Canada is expected to subside soon. On Thursday, temperatures soared between 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, prompting widespread discomfort and concern.
Environment Canada has forecasted a break in the oppressive heat, with less hot and humid conditions anticipated to gradually move into the region over the weekend. In the Montreal area, while temperatures are expected to remain high on Friday, rain and cooler temperatures between 19 and 24 degrees Celsius are predicted for the following three days.Toronto and Hamilton will experience one more day of extreme heat, but relief is expected as temperatures are set to drop to the mid to high 20s this weekend. Similarly, Nova Scotia will see a significant cooldown, with temperatures in Halifax forecasted to be in the high teens on both Saturday and Sunday. This respite from the heat wave comes as a relief to many who have struggled with the high temperatures. The International Monetary Fund has stated that the government needs to increase revenue to address the budget deficit and reduce state borrowing, which has implications for energy consumption and costs during such heat waves.
