Montreal, QC – A Toronto police officer was apprehended at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport over the weekend while attempting to leave the country, authorities have confirmed.
Const. Boris Borissov, 48, who has been with the Toronto Police Service for 16 years, was arrested by the Montreal police (SPVM) on Saturday. Borissov is facing a series of charges, including theft, fraud, and failing to comply with a release order. He was reportedly trying to evade legal proceedings by leaving the country.
Borissov was already scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Monday, but his attempt to flee has now led to an additional charge of failing to comply with recognizance. This follows a previous charge for failing to appear in court in June.
The officer’s legal troubles began in April when he was charged with multiple offences related to a 2022 investigation. Borissov is accused of stealing the possessions of a missing person and subsequently passing the victim’s debit card to another individual, who then used it at a Mississauga store. The charges against him also include allegations of fraudulently obtaining motor vehicles alongside the same individual.
Despite the severity of the charges, Borissov has been suspended with pay, which is in accordance with the current regulations governing police conduct in such cases.
As the case progresses, the Toronto Police Service has not yet commented on the long-term implications for Borissov’s employment. However, his attempt to flee the country could influence both his legal standing and public perception of the case.
