Supreme Court Orders CBI Probe into Forged Special Leave Petition Case

In an unprecedented development, the Supreme Court of India has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe after an appellant in a Special Leave Petition (SLP) claimed that he neither filed the petition nor engaged the lawyers representing him.

A bench comprising Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma termed the incident a “fraud” on the court, expressing concern over how documents were forged and submitted without the appellant’s knowledge. The CBI has been directed to investigate and submit a report within two months.

The case came to light during a hearing when it was revealed that the appellant had not signed any affidavits associated with the petition. The Court noted that if any notary had attested such affidavits without the appellant’s presence, it would amount to serious misconduct. The Court emphasized that this fraud endangered the integrity of the justice system, urging strict legal action to ensure that wrongdoers face consequences.

This incident highlights the increasing concern over misuse of legal procedures, with the Court calling such acts a brazen attempt to abuse the legal system.
