PM Modi and Spain’s PM Sanchez Inaugurate India’s First Private Military Aircraft Plant in Vadodara

Vadodara, October 28, 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez officially inaugurated the Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)-Airbus facility in Vadodara on Monday. This historic event marks the launch of India’s first private sector final assembly line for military aircraft, a significant step in advancing the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The Tata-Airbus facility will manufacture C-295 military aircraft, boosting India’s defense manufacturing capabilities. The project is a collaboration between Tata and Airbus, further strengthening the defense ties between India and Spain.

Speaking at the inauguration, PM Modi hailed the establishment of the facility as a “milestone for India’s defense sector,” emphasizing its potential to enhance self-reliance in defense production. Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez also expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting Spain’s commitment to deepening ties with India.

This facility is expected to manufacture a fleet of C-295 military aircraft, of which India has committed to procuring 15 additional planes. Out of the total, 12 will be built domestically at the new Tata-Airbus plant, reinforcing India’s status as a growing hub for defense production.
