European Climate Agency Warns of Hottest Year on Record—Again

For the second consecutive year, Earth is on track to experience its hottest year ever recorded, according to the European climate agency Copernicus. In 2024, for the first time, global temperatures surpassed 1.5°C above the pre-industrial average. Climate experts attribute this alarming trend to the relentless rise in greenhouse gases, coupled with natural phenomena like El Nino.

Stanford climate scientist Rob Jackson warns, “I think we have missed the 1.5-degree window,” reflecting concerns that the world may be too late in addressing the worst impacts of climate change.

As world leaders prepare for the COP29 summit in Azerbaijan, the focus will be on securing funding to accelerate the transition to renewable energy. Experts emphasize that without decisive global action, the future could bring more extreme weather, heatwaves, and disruptions.
