Four Indian-Origin Men Charged with Extortion in Canada

Brampton, Ontario – Four Indian-origin men have been charged with extortion in a case involving violence to pressure South Asian businesses in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga. The Peel Regional Police have stated that the individuals used threats and intimidation to demand money from local business owners, primarily targeting those within the South Asian community.

The suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed, were arrested after a thorough investigation by the Peel Police’s Major Crime Unit. Authorities allege that the extortion attempts involved both physical intimidation and verbal threats, which left business owners fearful for their safety.

“We take these types of criminal activities seriously, especially when they affect our local businesses,” said a Peel police spokesperson. “Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and business owners in the region.”

The suspects face multiple charges, including extortion, assault, and harassment. They are expected to appear in court soon. Peel Police have urged any other victims or witnesses to come forward with information to assist in the ongoing investigation.

The case has raised concerns about growing extortion-related crimes in the Greater Toronto Area, especially in communities with significant South Asian populations. Police continue to monitor similar activities and are urging business owners to report any suspicious activity immediately.

The investigation remains ongoing as the Peel Regional Police work to ensure justice is served.
