In a significant operation, the Indian Embassy in Laos successfully rescued 67 Indian nationals who were being held captive in cyber scam centres. The individuals were reportedly lured to Laos with promises of lucrative jobs but were forced to participate in illegal online fraud activities under duress.
The embassy, in coordination with local authorities, carried out the rescue operation and ensured the safe return of the victims. Many of the rescued individuals shared harrowing accounts of mistreatment and coercion at the hands of the scam operators.
The Ministry of External Affairs has urged Indian citizens to remain cautious of fraudulent job offers abroad and emphasized its commitment to protecting the welfare of its citizens overseas. Further investigations are underway to dismantle such scam networks.
