New Delhi – A day after a flight carrying 104 deported Indian nationals, including men, women, and children, landed in Amritsar, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar assured the Rajya Sabha that India is actively engaging with the U.S. government to ensure deportees are treated with dignity and not subjected to mistreatment during flights.

Addressing concerns raised over reports of restraints being used on some deportees, Jaishankar emphasized that deportation is not a new process and has been ongoing for years. However, he reiterated that the government remains committed to safeguarding the rights and well-being of Indian citizens.

“We are in touch with the U.S. authorities to ensure that deportation procedures are conducted in a humane and respectful manner. The dignity of our people remains our priority,” Jaishankar stated.

The latest batch of deportees, mostly those who had overstayed or entered the U.S. illegally, was repatriated as part of bilateral agreements between India and the United States. Officials have confirmed that the Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance where needed.

With increasing global migration challenges, India continues to advocate for fair treatment of its citizens abroad while ensuring compliance with international laws.
