Manchester, U.K. – India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, inaugurated a new Indian consulate in Manchester, marking a significant step in expanding India-U.K. diplomatic and economic relations. During his visit, he emphasized that bilateral ties between the two nations are set to “expand and deepen” in the coming years.
Speaking at the event, Jaishankar highlighted the growing Indian diaspora in the U.K. and the increasing trade, education, and cultural exchanges between the two countries. “The opening of this consulate reflects India’s commitment to strengthening its global presence and better serving its citizens abroad,” he stated.
The move comes amid ongoing discussions between India and the U.K. regarding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which is expected to boost economic cooperation. Jaishankar also met with key U.K. officials and business leaders to discuss further collaboration in technology, defense, and investment sectors.
With Manchester being home to a large Indian-origin population, the new consulate is expected to provide better consular services, facilitate trade ties, and promote India’s interests in the region.
