New Delhi, April 6 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, warning residents of a heatwave expected to persist until April 9. With temperatures forecast to soar between 40°C and 42°C over the next few days, the capital is bracing for intense summer conditions earlier than usual.

According to IMD data, the mercury is expected to touch 41°C on April 7 and 8, with similar conditions likely on April 9. The yellow alert signifies that while the heatwave may not be extreme, it poses moderate health risks, especially for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

The IMD has urged citizens to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and wear light cotton clothing. People are also advised to carry umbrellas or cover their heads while outdoors and consume cooling fluids such as lemon water, buttermilk, and ORS.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and health advisories have been issued to help the public cope with the high temperatures. Delhiites are encouraged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours and keep an eye on official weather updates.

The alert comes as a reminder of the intensifying effects of climate change, with unseasonably high temperatures becoming increasingly common in North India.
