BJP and TMC Allege ‘Outsiders’ Instigated Violence at Murshidabad

Murshidabad, April 14, 2025 — Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have alleged that “outsiders” were responsible for the recent outbreak of violence in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, marking a rare moment of agreement between the political rivals.

Tensions flared in the district over the weekend, leading to incidents of stone-pelting, arson, and clashes between groups during a local procession. Several people were injured, and police had to resort to lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the mobs.

While both parties traded accusations over local mismanagement and political provocation, they agreed on one key point — that the violence was not entirely homegrown.

“These incidents have been orchestrated by elements who have no connection with Murshidabad. It’s clearly an attempt to destabilize the peace of Bengal,” said a TMC spokesperson on Monday.

Echoing similar concerns, the BJP’s state leadership claimed, “Outsiders were brought in to instigate the violence and create chaos. We demand a full investigation.”

Local police are reviewing CCTV footage and mobile tower data to track the movement of individuals in the area during the time of the unrest. Authorities have so far detained 15 people and imposed Section 144 in sensitive zones to prevent further escalation.

The incident has sparked fresh concerns over law and order in the politically sensitive region, with opposition parties calling for central intervention, while the state government has assured strict action against those found guilty — regardless of political affiliation.
