Toronto: A devastating car crash on Highway 401 in Etobicoke has claimed the lives of three children, with a 19-year-old man now facing impaired driving charges in connection with the incident.

The collision occurred in the early hours of Sunday when a speeding vehicle lost control and crashed into a stationary minivan carrying a family. Three children, aged 6, 13, and 15, were killed in the impact. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but two of the children were pronounced dead immediately, while the youngest succumbed to her injuries later at the hospital.

Three other individuals — including another child and two adults — were injured and taken to hospital. They are reported to be in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle has been arrested and charged with impaired operation causing death. Authorities say the young man was driving at a high speed when the accident occurred. He is expected to appear in court soon.

Police have closed the area for investigation and are appealing to the public for any information or footage that may assist in the case. The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, reigniting concerns around impaired and reckless driving.
