UK Halts Trade Talks with Israel, Summons Ambassador Over Gaza Conflict

London, May 20:
In a sharp diplomatic move, the United Kingdom has officially suspended trade negotiations with Israel and summoned the Israeli ambassador in response to the intensifying military operations in Gaza. The British government described Israel’s recent actions in the Palestinian territory as “intolerable,” citing growing concerns over civilian casualties and the humanitarian situation.

According to senior officials, the decision reflects mounting pressure within the UK government and among the public to take a stronger stance against the continued violence. The Foreign Office emphasized that while the UK supports Israel’s right to self-defense, the scale and impact of its current offensive in Gaza have raised serious ethical and legal concerns.

The Israeli ambassador was summoned for urgent discussions in London, where UK officials reportedly conveyed their dissatisfaction and urged immediate steps toward de-escalation.

This diplomatic rift signals a significant shift in the UK’s traditionally firm support for Israel and adds to the growing international calls for restraint and a ceasefire in the region.
