Ottawa — Several Sikh organizations in Canada have voiced strong opposition to the potential invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the upcoming G7 summit. The groups have urged the Canadian government to reconsider any plans involving Modi’s participation, citing concerns over human rights and recent diplomatic tensions.

According to the organizations, inviting Modi would send the wrong message to communities affected by actions they claim have targeted minorities and dissenters. They argue that Canada, as a democratic nation, should uphold values of justice and accountability when deciding on diplomatic invitations.

The demand comes at a time when relations between India and Canada have faced strain, with growing calls from diaspora communities for greater scrutiny of international engagements. The groups have emphasized the need for Canada to stand by its principles and ensure that its global partnerships reflect domestic values.

With Canada set to host the summit, the call by Sikh organizations has added a new layer of complexity to the planning and diplomatic considerations surrounding the high-level international event.
