The highly awaited Axiom-4 mission, which includes Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla as part of its crew, has been postponed once again. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) confirmed the delay and attributed it to ongoing technical checks and final system readiness assessments.
Originally scheduled to launch this month, the mission is part of a collaborative effort between Axiom Space and ISRO, aiming to send a crew of international astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). Shukla’s inclusion in the mission has generated significant excitement across India, as he is set to become one of the few Indian astronauts to participate in a commercial spaceflight.
In an official statement, ISRO emphasized that safety remains the top priority. “All parameters must meet our strict mission standards. The decision to postpone was taken after reviewing critical systems that still require fine-tuning,” said a senior ISRO official.
While the new launch date has not yet been announced, both ISRO and Axiom Space have assured that preparations are progressing steadily. The delay, officials say, will not affect mission objectives and is a precautionary measure to ensure mission success.
The Axiom-4 mission aims to expand commercial spaceflight opportunities and scientific research aboard the ISS. For India, it also marks another step forward in strengthening its presence in the global space arena.
As the nation awaits the rescheduled launch, hopes remain high that Shubhanshu Shukla’s journey into space will soon become a reality, showcasing India’s growing contribution to international space exploration.
