Aviation watchdog flags serious deficiencies, calls for urgent corrective action
Content:
A comprehensive surveillance operation conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has revealed numerous safety lapses and operational deficiencies across several major airports in India. The findings have raised concerns about compliance with aviation safety standards and prompted calls for immediate rectification.
According to officials, the inspection covered critical infrastructure, airside operations, ground handling, emergency preparedness, and documentation. The DGCA identified inconsistencies in runway maintenance, outdated safety equipment, inadequate training of ground staff, and poor documentation practices at multiple locations.
“These lapses pose a potential risk to passenger safety and require urgent attention,” a senior DGCA official stated. Authorities have issued notices to concerned airport operators, demanding swift corrective measures and strict adherence to regulatory norms.
The report also recommends enhanced training programs and stricter enforcement of safety protocols to prevent future violations.
Airports have been given a limited window to address the highlighted issues, and follow-up inspections are expected soon. The DGCA emphasized that ensuring safety is a non-negotiable priority, especially as passenger traffic continues to grow across the country.
