Ontario Premier Doug Ford has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to achieving climate goals, stating that “our goal is always to hit 100%,” even as internal documents reveal the province is falling short of a key climate target.
The documents, recently reviewed by government insiders, suggest that Ontario is not on track to meet its 2030 greenhouse gas reduction target — a cornerstone of the province’s environmental policy.
Ford, speaking to reporters, maintained a confident tone, insisting that efforts are underway to strengthen clean energy initiatives and reduce emissions across sectors such as transportation, industry, and construction. “We’re investing, we’re adapting, and we’re going to get there,” he said.
Environmental groups and opposition leaders, however, have criticized the government for lack of transparency and slow progress, calling for stronger legislative action and clearer accountability.
The disclosed data points to challenges in aligning industrial emissions, energy consumption, and infrastructure development with long-term sustainability goals.
As climate concerns continue to shape public policy, Ontario’s lagging performance raises questions about the province’s strategy — and whether bold enough steps are being taken to meet the urgency of the crisis
