Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has openly blamed the Congress party for instigating a violent clash at a recent eviction site, asserting that senior leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge could be summoned for questioning in connection with the incident.

The confrontation took place during the government’s land-clearing operation, which evicted unauthorized structures. According to the Chief Minister, Congress-backed protesters provoked tensions that escalated into a physical showdown between residents and enforcement agencies.

“This disturbance was engineered by opposition elements, and we have evidence showing their involvement,” Sarma told reporters. “If necessary, we are prepared to call Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to explain their role in this agitation.”

Local authorities report several injuries and property damage as clashes erupted. CM Sarma defended the eviction as a legal and necessary step in reclaiming government land, accusing the Congress of politicizing the operation ahead of upcoming by-elections.

The Chief Minister warned that those found responsible will face appropriate legal action, emphasizing that the state administration will not hesitate to hold political figures accountable.

The Congress party has denied direct involvement, accusing Sarma of deflection and warning that attempts to summon national leaders over a regional land dispute could escalate political tensions further.

The situation remains tense as law enforcement monitors the area, and the political standoff signals a deeper clash between Assam’s ruling party and the national opposition on handling civic order and political dissent.
