Hundreds of passengers face disruptions as labour dispute escalates
August 13, 2025 — Air Canada has begun cancelling flights this morning, warning of major disruptions ahead of a potential strike by its flight attendants scheduled to begin on Saturday.
The airline said the decision to cancel flights early was taken to minimize last-minute chaos for travelers as negotiations with the flight attendants’ union remain deadlocked. The union had earlier issued a strike notice, demanding better wages, improved working conditions, and revised scheduling policies.
Air Canada, in response, has threatened a lockout, further intensifying the standoff. Both parties have expressed willingness to continue talks, but so far, no breakthrough has been reached.
The strike could impact thousands of domestic and international passengers, especially during the peak summer travel period. Travelers are being urged to check flight status and consider alternative plans as the situation develops.
Government mediators are expected to step in if the negotiations fail before the weekend deadline.
