Party aims to strengthen alliance ahead of crucial polls
August 16, 2025 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate for the post of Vice President of India. The decision comes after a series of high-level consultations within the party and among its allies.
Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP leader and two-time former Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, is seen as a trusted party veteran with deep organizational roots. His nomination is being viewed as an attempt by the NDA to strengthen its Southern outreach while reinforcing unity within the alliance.
The Vice Presidential election is scheduled to take place later this month, with the ruling coalition confident of securing a comfortable win given its numerical strength in Parliament.
Party sources have described Radhakrishnan as a “seasoned leader with vast legislative experience and strong commitment to national development.” If elected, he will succeed the current Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned earlier citing health concerns.
Political analysts suggest that the BJP’s choice underscores its focus on regional balance and alliance management at a time when national politics is witnessing intense polarization ahead of future elections.
