New Delhi/Srinagar – In one of the most significant military operations in recent years, a senior Indian Army officer has confirmed that over 100 Pakistani soldiers were killed during Operation Sindoor, a high-intensity cross-border counteroffensive aimed at neutralizing terror launchpads and military positions supporting infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC).

The operation, conducted over several days across multiple sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, was described as “swift, precise, and deeply coordinated.” According to Indian defense sources, the mission targeted Pakistan Army posts and bunkers that were providing cover fire and logistical support to infiltrating militants.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the top Army officer said, “Our surveillance systems picked up unusual activity on the Pakistani side. Once confirmed, Indian forces carried out a calibrated and proportionate response. Over 100 enemy soldiers have been neutralized, and several of their forward positions have been destroyed.”

The officer added that Indian troops suffered minimal casualties, crediting the success of the operation to superior intelligence, advanced drone reconnaissance, and the use of precision artillery. “This was a message — India will not tolerate provocations or attempts to destabilize peace in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Pakistan’s military, however, has denied the casualty figures, claiming that “only minor exchanges of fire” occurred along the LoC. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) termed India’s claims “fabricated and exaggerated,” accusing New Delhi of “escalatory posturing.”

Operation Sindoor — named after the Sanskrit word for “sunrise” — is believed to have been launched in response to a series of ceasefire violations and intelligence reports of impending terrorist infiltrations from Pakistani territory. Indian officials say the strikes were designed to preempt larger attacks planned by terror groups operating under Pakistani protection.

Military experts view the operation as part of India’s evolving doctrine of “active deterrence”, which allows for swift, localized responses to cross-border aggression without escalating into full-scale conflict. “This is the new normal — precision strikes backed by real-time intelligence,” said Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rakesh Sharma. “It sends a clear message to Pakistan’s establishment that India will hit back decisively.”

The Ministry of Defence has not released official figures but is expected to brief Parliament later this week. Meanwhile, reports from local sources along the LoC suggest heavy destruction of Pakistani bunkers and ammunition depots, along with the movement of reinforcements into the area.

This operation comes at a time of heightened regional tension, following Pakistan’s recent accusations of Indian cross-border strikes in PoK and escalating diplomatic exchanges between the two neighbors.

With Operation Sindoor, India has reaffirmed its intent to maintain a firm and offensive posture along its borders — a demonstration that any provocation, overt or covert, will be met with a calibrated yet forceful response.
