Surrey, Canada – In yet another alarming incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire at a café owned by Indian comedian Kapil Sharma in Surrey, British Columbia, marking the third such attack in recent months. Local authorities have launched a full-scale investigation, suspecting the incident may be linked to organized criminal networks operating in the region.

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), multiple shots were fired at the café late Sunday night, shattering the glass facade and damaging nearby parked vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the establishment was closed at the time of the attack.

Witnesses in the area told police they heard “a series of loud gunshots” followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding away. “We were terrified — the sound was so close. It’s shocking that this is happening again at the same place,” said a local resident who lives near the café.

Authorities confirmed that this was the third shooting targeting the same establishment since early this year. The earlier incidents, in June and August, had similarly involved drive-by shooters who escaped before police arrived. RCMP officials say forensic teams have collected shell casings from the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops to identify suspects.

“We are treating this as a targeted attack,” said Corporal Vanessa Munn of Surrey RCMP. “Investigators are working to determine if the shootings are connected to ongoing gang activity or extortion-related cases that have recently affected South Asian–owned businesses in the Lower Mainland.”

Kapil Sharma, one of India’s most popular comedians and television hosts, owns the café as part of a business partnership in Canada. While Sharma himself was not present during any of the attacks, his team released a brief statement expressing concern over the repeated incidents. “We are deeply disturbed by these acts of violence and are cooperating fully with local authorities,” the statement said.

The repeated attacks have raised serious concerns within Surrey’s South Asian community, many of whom have reported receiving threats or extortion calls from unidentified individuals claiming to represent international criminal groups. “These crimes are not isolated,” said a community organizer. “Many local entrepreneurs are being targeted for money, and police need to act faster before someone gets hurt.”

Local law enforcement has increased patrols in the area and urged the public to remain calm but vigilant. “We are aware of the anxiety these incidents cause,” the RCMP said. “Residents should report any suspicious activity immediately.”

Canadian media outlets have reported that police are exploring possible links between the shootings and a series of gang-related extortion rackets involving Indian and Indo-Canadian crime networks.

For now, Sharma’s café remains closed as investigators continue their work. The string of attacks has not only shaken the local business community but also cast a shadow over the growing problem of transnational criminal influence in Canada’s otherwise peaceful suburbs.

Police have appealed to the public for information, offering assurances that protecting business owners from intimidation and violence remains a top priority.
