Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked this year’s Diwali celebrations with Navy personnel aboard India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, praising the crew for their dedication and highlighting the ship’s strategic importance for national defense.
Speaking to sailors on the deck of the carrier, the Prime Minister said INS Vikrant had given “sleepless nights to Pakistan” and stood as a symbol of India’s growing naval power and self-reliance in defense manufacturing. “This warship reflects the strength of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. Every Indian feels proud knowing that this vessel was built by our own engineers and scientists,” Modi said.
He thanked the Navy for their service and commitment, emphasizing that India’s maritime forces play a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s interests across the Indian Ocean. “Our seas are gateways of prosperity and security. The Navy’s vigilance ensures both,” he added.
The Prime Minister also interacted with sailors and extended Diwali greetings to their families, acknowledging the sacrifices made by service members who spend the festival away from home. “You are the reason millions of Indians celebrate Diwali in peace,” he said.
Modi’s visit to INS Vikrant comes as India continues to strengthen its naval presence amid regional tensions and rising maritime challenges. The aircraft carrier, commissioned in 2022, symbolizes India’s technological and strategic leap in defense.
Before concluding his address, Modi reiterated his government’s commitment to equipping the armed forces with advanced technology and promoting indigenous defense production, stating, “Our strength lies not just in our weapons, but in the courage and dedication of our soldiers, sailors, and airmen.”
