Canada reaffirmed its commitment to regional stability in the Middle East as Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand met Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on the margins of the G20 Summit. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries and advancing joint efforts to promote peace and security across a region facing rising tensions and humanitarian challenges.
Officials said the conversation centred on the ongoing crises in Gaza, broader regional security concerns, and the importance of coordinated international action. Anand thanked Egypt for its continued role in mediation and humanitarian access, noting that Cairo remains a crucial partner in de-escalation efforts and hostage negotiations.
The two ministers discussed ways to deepen collaboration through multilateral platforms and reaffirmed that Canada will continue working closely with Egypt and other allies to support stability, protect civilians, and encourage diplomatic solutions in the Middle East.
Anand also highlighted Canada’s support for humanitarian initiatives and its emphasis on safeguarding international law during conflicts. Abdelatty, in turn, outlined Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic engagements and stressed the need for sustained global attention to prevent further escalation.
The meeting, held alongside broader G20 discussions, underscored Canada’s effort to maintain strong partnerships in a region where diplomatic cooperation remains critical to any long-term peace framework.
