Canada issues nationwide recall of beef burgers over possible E. coli contaminationCanada issues nationwide recall of beef burgers over possible E. coli contamination

Canadian food safety authorities have announced a Canada-wide recall of certain beef burger products after tests indicated the possible presence of E. coli bacteria, raising public health concerns across multiple provinces.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said the recall affects specific beef burger products distributed nationally through retail outlets and food service locations. Consumers have been advised not to consume, serve, sell, or distribute the affected items and to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase.

E. coli contamination can cause serious illness, particularly among young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea that may be bloody, vomiting, and fever. In some cases, complications can lead to hospitalization.

The CFIA said the recall was triggered following routine food safety testing and is part of ongoing efforts to prevent foodborne illness. As of the latest update, no widespread illnesses have been officially confirmed, but health officials continue to monitor reports closely.

Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected products from shelves immediately, and food service operators are being contacted directly. The agency is also conducting a food safety investigation, which could lead to additional recalls if other products are found to be affected.

Public health officials are urging consumers to check their freezers and refrigerators carefully and to follow safe food-handling practices, including cooking ground beef thoroughly to an internal temperature that kills harmful bacteria.

The CFIA said it will provide further updates as more information becomes available and encouraged Canadians to consult its website for product details, lot codes, and recall notices.
