Mike Schriener the green party provincial leader and MPP Guelph has consecutively won three elections. Many politicians, I spoke to, feel he might be irreplaceable.
Even though I have interacted with the MPP, We tried to get some answers based on stats below. Are the candidates competing weak or does Mike Schriener has some charisma?

Guelph, Ontario has a population of approximately 120,000 which can vote for provincial elections and approximately 90,000 for the federal elections.

In the last election, Mike Schriener received 34,238 votes seconded by 14,386 received by the progressive conservatives Rob Coole.

In the most recent federal elections Dominique the liberal candidate received 38,408 votes, in a comparatively about 30% smaller territory or riding as the boundary for federal elections excludes ward 6 of guelph which has approximately 30,000 voters.

To compare apples with apples, Dominique ( with other things remaining the same ), would have received 49,930 votes against Mike Schriener’s garnering of 34,408 votes.

Dominique Rourke was the ward 6 counsellor before she decided to represent the liberal party in last federal elections.

There are views of some that voters vote differently for provincial and federal elections. Most feel candidate is the primary criteria to vote. The result of liberal MP above proves the fact.

From above stats it appears , if a strong candidate is pitched against present MPP, similar to the federal candidate referred above, there may be a reasonable possibility that the current MPP guelph could face a tough race and be replaced.
