Calgary Firefighter Morgan Kitchen Tragically Dies Fighting Jasper Wildfire
Morgan Kitchen, a 24-year-old firefighter from Calgary, tragically lost his life while battling wildfires near Jasper, Alberta. The incident occurred on August 3rd, when Kitchen was struck by a falling tree while working with his crew.
Kitchen, a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces and the British Royal Marines, was based out of the Rocky Mountain House fire base. Known for his dedication and passion for his work, Kitchen was providing critical first aid alongside his crew when the accident happened around 2 p.m. local time.
Despite the swift response from Jasper National Park visitor safety specialists and the Alberta Wildfire unit, Kitchen succumbed to his injuries after being airlifted by a STARS air ambulance to a nearby operations compound.
Kitchen’s friends and family took to social media to remember him as a talented athlete, musician, and first responder who loved what he did. He leaves behind his parents, step-parents, and six siblings, who are mourning the loss of a man described as “genuinely happy” and committed to serving others.
The community has come together to honor Kitchen’s memory, with a procession held in Hinton, Alberta, reflecting the respect and admiration his fellow firefighters and the broader community had for him.
