Ottawa’s Nightlife Commissioner Launches New Council to Boost City’s After-Hours Scene
Ottawa’s efforts to enhance its nightlife are ramping up as the city’s recently appointed Nightlife Commissioner, Mathieu Grondin, works to establish a volunteer council aimed at fostering the local post-6 p.m. economy. The council, consisting of 12-18 members with backgrounds in nightlife businesses, cultural organizations, and entertainment, will serve as a bridge between the nightlife community and city officials.
This initiative comes as part of a broader plan to revitalize Ottawa’s after-hours reputation by making it safer, more inclusive, and accessible. The council will meet quarterly to provide recommendations on reducing bureaucratic barriers and addressing unmet community needs.
Applications for the council are open until mid-October, and the final list of members will be revealed later this fall. The city hopes this move will create new opportunities for events and cultural activities, while boosting Ottawa’s appeal as a vibrant nighttime destination.
