India, Pakistan Clash Over Kashmir Issue at UN General Assembly
New Delhi — A sharp exchange erupted between India and Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raised the Kashmir issue. In his address, Sharif accused India of abandoning its commitments to implement UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
Responding to these remarks, Bhavika Mangalanandan, First Secretary in India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, exercised India’s Right to Reply. She condemned Pakistan for harboring terrorism and said, “A country run by the military, with a global reputation for terrorism and transnational crime, has had the audacity to attack the world’s largest democracy.”
India further emphasized that Pakistan’s continued support for cross-border terrorism would invite consequences, reminding the international community of Pakistan’s history of aggression, including attacks on Indian Parliament and Mumbai.
The exchange highlights the ongoing tensions between the two nations over the Kashmir dispute, a longstanding point of contention in South Asia.
