Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024: Phase 3 Sees 65.65% Voter Turnout, Highest in Samba District
Srinagar, October 1, 2024 – The third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections concluded today with a voter turnout of 65.65%. The highest turnout of 73.45% was recorded in Samba district, while Baramulla witnessed the lowest turnout at 55.73%. Polling took place in 40 assembly constituencies, with 24 seats in the Jammu division and 16 in the Kashmir Valley.
This phase included significant constituencies from border districts in North Kashmir and the last of the Scheduled Tribe (ST)-reserved seats in Gurez. Additionally, all seven Scheduled Caste (SC)-reserved seats, located in Jammu, voted today.

Kupwara: 62.76%

The Election Commission reported a smooth polling process across all constituencies, with enhanced security measures and webcasting from over 5,000 polling stations. This phase of voting is expected to shape the political dynamics in the region as results are set to be declared on October 8.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi both urged citizens to vote for a government that will ensure peace, development, and the eradication of terrorism and corruption in Jammu and Kashmir. Political leaders like Rahul Gandhi also encouraged voters to exercise their democratic rights in large numbers.
The election has been significant, marking the first Assembly polls in the region after a decade. The results are anticipated to reveal the future political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir as it continues its journey under direct administration following the abrogation of Article 370.
