Canada Post Workers Issue 72-Hour Strike Notice
Canada Post workers, represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), have issued a 72-hour notice to strike as of Tuesday, November 12, 2024. This comes exactly one year after negotiations for a new contract began. Despite ongoing discussions, significant issues like wage increases, pensions, and medical leave remain unresolved.
Although CUPW now holds a legal strike position, they have not set a strike date. The union’s decision will depend on Canada Post’s actions at the bargaining table. Over 95% of union members have previously voted in favor of a strike mandate.
Canada Post has warned that continued labor disputes could affect its services, especially during the upcoming holiday season, and its already-strained finances, having reported a $490 million loss in the first half of 2024.
Negotiations are ongoing as both parties attempt to reach a resolution and avoid service disruptions.
