Major Blow to Naxal Movement as Militants Lay Down Arms
RAIPUR — In a significant development, 22 Naxalites, including six with bounties of ₹11 lakh each on their heads, surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh. The surrender took place in the insurgency-hit Bijapur district, marking a major success in the state’s efforts to curb Maoist activities.
According to police officials, the Naxalites decided to give up arms, expressing disillusionment with the Maoist ideology and violence. Among the surrendered were key operatives involved in attacks on security forces and civilians. Their decision to surrender was influenced by the government’s rehabilitation policy, which offers financial aid and support for reintegration into society.
“The surrender of these Naxal cadres is a testament to the growing effectiveness of our security operations and developmental efforts in the region,” a senior police officer stated.
The state government has assured the surrendered militants of comprehensive support, including vocational training and financial assistance to rebuild their lives. Officials believe this mass surrender will further weaken the Maoist network in the Bastar region, where insurgency remains a significant challenge.
With sustained efforts from security forces and outreach programs, authorities hope more Naxal cadres will follow suit, contributing to the region’s journey toward peace and development.
