Toronto, Canada – Independent MP Han Dong has announced that he will not seek re-election in his suburban Toronto riding, marking the end of his tenure in federal politics.
Dong, who previously represented Don Valley North as a Liberal before stepping down from the party amid allegations of foreign interference—claims he has consistently denied—confirmed his decision in a statement. He cited personal reasons and a desire to focus on new opportunities outside of politics.
“It has been an honor to serve the people of Don Valley North, and I am grateful for the trust they placed in me,” Dong said. “After careful consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election.”
His departure comes as the next federal election approaches, with parties already preparing for a competitive race in the riding. The Liberals, Conservatives, and New Democrats are expected to field strong candidates as they vie for control of the Toronto-area seat.
Dong first won his seat in 2019 and was re-elected in 2021. His decision to step away from politics leaves an open race in a key battleground riding.
