Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos and panic as gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, targeting buses carrying tourists from various parts of the country. Security forces and local police swiftly responded, engaging the attackers in a gunfight that lasted for hours.

Among the dead are men, women, and children who were visiting the scenic valley during the peak travel season. Authorities fear the death toll could rise as several injured remain in critical condition and are being treated in nearby hospitals, including in Anantnag and Srinagar.

The attack has sparked widespread condemnation from across the nation. Prime Minister and top government officials expressed deep sorrow and pledged a strong response. “This cowardly act will not go unpunished. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” a government statement read.

Security has been intensified across Jammu and Kashmir, with multiple checkpoints set up and combing operations underway to locate the remaining suspects. Intelligence agencies have been placed on high alert, and a joint investigation has been launched to trace the origins and motive behind the attack.

Tourism, a major source of livelihood in the region, is expected to take a severe hit following the incident. Travel advisories have been issued by several states urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the region.

This attack comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to promote peace and tourism in the valley, raising questions over security lapses and the persistent threat of militancy in the region.
