Congress leader intensifies ideological attack, accuses RSS of undermining constitutional values

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), alleging that the organization seeks to replace India’s Constitution with the ancient Manusmriti. Speaking at a public event, Gandhi accused the RSS of hiding its true intentions behind nationalism and claimed the mask has now come off.
“They don’t believe in the Constitution. What they really want is the Manusmriti, which discriminates against women, Dalits, and backward classes,” Gandhi said, triggering strong reactions from both supporters and critics.
The remark comes amid an ongoing national debate over constitutional values, social justice, and rising polarisation. Gandhi framed the issue as a battle between two ideologies — one rooted in equality and democracy, the other in hierarchy and exclusion.
The BJP has dismissed the comments as baseless and politically motivated, calling them a diversion from governance failures. However, Gandhi’s statement has found resonance among sections of civil society and opposition leaders who view the RSS as pushing a regressive social agenda.
With the general elections approaching, the clash over foundational values has once again taken center stage, and Gandhi’s remarks signal that the ideological battle will be a key front in the political discourse ahead.
