In a significant move to enhance airport security and operational efficiency, authorities have announced that airport staff passes will soon be integrated with facial recognition technology, registered vehicle number plates, and FASTag systems.
The new system is designed to create a seamless and secure verification process for ground staff and personnel working in sensitive airport zones. By linking biometric data, vehicle identification, and digital toll information, officials aim to ensure tighter control over access points and movement within restricted areas.
“This integrated approach will reduce the risk of unauthorized entry and improve overall security management,” said a senior official overseeing the rollout.
Under the plan, facial data of employees will be captured and matched in real-time with their ID credentials. Vehicles used by staff will also be tracked through linked license plates and FASTags, allowing for automated gate clearance and audit trails.
The initiative is expected to be implemented first at major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, before expanding nationwide.
Authorities believe the move will not only strengthen security protocols but also enhance efficiency in managing personnel movement during peak operational hours. Training and transition support are being provided to ensure smooth implementation.
The system is part of India’s broader push towards smart, tech-enabled infrastructure at critical transportation hubs.
