Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described the Ram Temple in Ayodhya as a historic shift in India’s cultural and spiritual consciousness, calling the moment a long-awaited fulfilment of centuries of faith, struggle, and devotion. Speaking after hoisting a saffron flag atop the temple complex, the Prime Minister said the act marked the culmination of a 500-year-old yajna, symbolising the completion of vows that generations had carried forward.
Crowds gathered in large numbers across Ayodhya as devotional chants echoed through the newly developed temple precincts. Modi said the day represented a moment where “centuries-old wounds are being healed” and stressed that the rise of the temple had given millions of Indians a sense of closure as well as renewed cultural pride.
The Prime Minister noted that the temple was not merely a physical structure but a reflection of India’s deep-rooted civilisational continuity. He said the saffron flag represented sacrifice, duty, and a spiritual identity that has shaped the nation’s cultural foundations for millennia.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who joined the ceremony, said the flag symbolised India’s “national religion” and the unity of its civilisational ethos. He added that after centuries of turmoil, the inauguration of the temple and the flag-hoisting ceremony were milestones that would influence India’s cultural direction for generations.
Local priests conducted special rituals through the day, while thousands of devotees participated in prayers and parikrama around the sprawling temple complex. Ayodhya remained under a heavy security blanket, with police and paramilitary forces deployed across major routes to manage the massive footfall.
The event marks another significant moment in the Ram Temple’s ongoing development, following the consecration earlier this year. With the Prime Minister calling the day a spiritual milestone and state leaders framing it as a national cultural resurgence, Ayodhya once again became the focal point of India’s religious and political conversation.
