Canada Soccer CEO Reveals Drone Spying Attempt at Copa America
In a surprising revelation, Kevin Blue, CEO of Canada Soccer, disclosed that the men’s national soccer team attempted to use a drone for spying during the recent Copa America tournament. Despite the controversy, Blue assured that the incident did not impact the tournament’s competitive integrity, though he refrained from providing further details.
Jesse Marsch, head coach of the men’s national team, was reportedly informed about the drone usage only after the fact. Following this revelation, Marsch denounced the practice to his staff. Canada, participating as a guest country, made an impressive run to the semifinals before being defeated 2-0 by Argentina.
Blue’s comments came in the wake of another scandal involving the women’s national team. Bev Priestman, the women’s team coach, was suspended from the Olympic Games, and two staff members were dismissed following reports of a drone being used to spy on New Zealand team practices.
Addressing the media from Paris, Blue expressed deep concern over the potential long-term and systemic nature of such practices within Canada Soccer. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into these allegations. However, Blue defended the players, stating they were not involved in any unethical behavior.
