In the early hours of Wednesday, a shooting at Virginia State University (VSU) left four individuals injured. Chesterfield County Police responded to the scene around 12:30 a.m. following reports of gunfire. All four victims were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to a police statement.
The victims, as well as the suspects, are not currently enrolled for the fall semester at VSU, said Gwen Williams Dandridge, a university spokesperson. While classes are scheduled to begin next week, freshmen and student leaders were already present on campus.
Authorities have confirmed that multiple suspects are in custody, and charges are pending. The police assured that there is no ongoing threat to the university community. Both county and university police departments are collaborating in the ongoing investigation.
Virginia State University, located just south of Richmond, enrolls approximately 4,000 students.
