US House Republicans Criticise Biden Over Chaotic Afghanistan Withdrawal

In a report released after a three-year investigation, US House Republicans have strongly criticized President Joe Biden’s administration for its handling of the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. The report, led by Representative Michael McCaul, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, highlights the administration’s failure to coordinate evacuation efforts, delayed decisions, and incomplete paperwork for Afghan civilians eligible to leave the country.

Republicans argue that the withdrawal damaged America’s credibility on the global stage and left Afghan allies vulnerable to Taliban reprisals. Democrats, however, contend that some of the blame lies with former President Donald Trump, who initiated the withdrawal deal with the Taliban in 2020. As the 2024 US presidential election approaches, the withdrawal remains a politically charged issue, with Trump using it to criticize Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
