Quebec Man Admits to Setting Off Homemade Explosives for Social Media Fame and Money
A 43-year-old man from Stoneham, Quebec, is set to be sentenced this Friday after pleading guilty to the negligent use of explosives. Dominic Pelletier admitted in court that he created homemade bombs and filmed explosions for social media in an effort to gain online fame and monetize his content.
Pelletier, who was arrested earlier this year after an investigation, posted videos of increasingly dangerous stunts on platforms like Facebook and TikTok. His videos showed him blowing up various objects, which led to a police raid of his home. Authorities discovered a collection of dangerous materials, including pipe bombs, propane tanks, and ammunition.
In court, Pelletier explained that he was unemployed at the time and turned to social media to earn money. Both the prosecution and defense are seeking a one-year community sentence for him, though the judge expressed concern about the potential danger his actions posed to himself and others.
The final sentencing decision will be announced on Friday, where it will be determined whether Pelletier will serve his sentence in the community.
