Important for Next US President to See India as Crucial Partner: Neil Makhija

As the 2024 US Presidential election nears, Indian-origin Democratic leader Neil Makhija emphasized the significance of the India-US partnership in a recent interview with PTI. Makhija stated that the next US president must view India as a vital ally, citing the country’s size and economic potential. He underscored that cooperation between the two nations is crucial, especially in the context of global challenges like competition with China and the actions of Russia.

Makhija, a key supporter of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, expressed confidence that if Harris becomes president, the India-US relationship would reach new heights. He highlighted Harris’ past efforts to support legal immigration reforms, particularly concerning the H1B visa backlog, which Republicans failed to address. Makhija also criticized former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, labeling them divisive and harmful to immigrant communities, including Indian-Americans.

In contrast, Makhija lauded Harris as a leader who represents an inclusive future, fostering a pluralistic vision for America. He described the 2024 election as a choice between safeguarding democracy and turning back to a regressive past.

As the election approaches, Makhija’s views reflect the growing importance of India in the US’s strategic and economic framework.
