Lebanon’s Speaker Warns of ‘Most Dangerous Phase,’ PM Calls for Ceasefire Commitment
Beirut: Lebanon’s Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, has described the current tensions with Israel as the “most dangerous phase” in the country’s history, highlighting the severe risks posed by ongoing hostilities. Berri’s comments come amidst heightened regional unrest, particularly along Lebanon’s southern border.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, appealed to Israel on Wednesday to uphold a newly agreed ceasefire. Mikati emphasized the importance of adhering to the truce to prevent further escalation and ensure regional stability.
The ceasefire, brokered amid rising casualties and infrastructure damage, has raised hopes for a temporary reprieve. However, the fragile agreement remains under threat as both sides accuse each other of violations.
The conflict has significantly impacted Lebanon, with mounting concerns over humanitarian crises, economic repercussions, and political instability. Berri’s warning underscores the urgent need for international intervention to avert further escalation in the region.
Efforts by regional and global actors to mediate a lasting peace remain critical as the situation continues to unfold.
