Japan Tightens Sanctions on Russia, Targets Banks and Organizations

In a move to increase pressure on Moscow, Japan announced new sanctions against Russia, citing concerns over ongoing geopolitical tensions. According to a joint statement issued by Japan’s foreign, trade, and finance ministries, the sanctions include an asset freeze on 11 individuals, 29 organizations, and three Russian banks.

Additionally, a North Korean and a Georgian bank, accused of aiding Russia in evading international sanctions, have been added to the list. This measure aims to curb financial transactions and restrict access to resources that could support Russia’s activities.

Japan reiterated its commitment to working alongside international partners to uphold sanctions and promote global stability. This marks a significant escalation in Japan’s response, reflecting its firm stance against actions that threaten international peace and security.
