Shopian, Jammu & Kashmir – May 13, 2025:

In a swift counter-terror operation, security forces gunned down three militants in the Keller area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday morning. The encounter comes just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning against terrorism, vowing strong retaliation against any anti-India activity.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area late Monday night. The militants, who were heavily armed, opened fire on the forces, triggering a fierce gunfight that lasted several hours.

All three militants were killed in the exchange. Their identities are yet to be confirmed, but initial reports suggest they were affiliated with a Pakistan-based terror group.

The encounter site has been sealed off and a search operation is underway to ensure no other militants are hiding in the vicinity. No casualties were reported among the security personnel.

The operation is being seen as part of the government’s intensified crackdown on terrorism in the Valley, especially after PM Modi’s clear message that India will not tolerate cross-border terrorism and will respond with full force if provoked.

Security has been heightened across the region, and surveillance has been intensified to prevent any retaliatory attacks.
