Canada is currently engaged in high-level discussions with the United States to potentially join the “Golden Dome” defence initiative, a revamped missile shield program championed by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Government sources suggest the talks are in preliminary stages, but the interest marks a significant step in Canada’s evolving defence posture amid growing global tensions. The proposed collaboration could see Canada contributing to and benefiting from an integrated missile defence system that promises to counter advanced aerial threats, including long-range missiles and drones.
The Golden Dome initiative, a modernized version of earlier U.S. missile defence programs, has gained traction as geopolitical threats intensify in regions like Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific. For Canada, alignment with such a defence system may bolster national security and reinforce its defence ties with the United States.
