Former U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the United States has secured “full access” to Indonesian markets following a newly concluded pact, and suggested that a similar trade deal with India is in progress and will follow “along the same lines.”
Speaking at a press event, Trump emphasized the strategic importance of Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region in his trade agenda, calling the Indonesia agreement “a big win” for American businesses and workers.
Without disclosing specific terms, Trump claimed the pact removes major barriers to trade and opens up sectors including agriculture, technology, and energy. “We’ve got everything we wanted — full access, fair rules, and protection for American jobs,” he said.
Turning to India, Trump noted that negotiations are ongoing but hinted at progress. “India is next. It’s going to be a deal very much like this one. We’re working on it, and it’s coming together beautifully,” he told reporters.
Analysts view Trump’s remarks as part of a broader strategy to counterbalance China’s influence in the region while strengthening U.S. trade ties with key democracies. However, experts also caution that such claims may be premature without full disclosure of agreement texts or formal ratification.
As discussions continue behind closed doors, both New Delhi and Washington are expected to clarify the scope and timing of any potential trade pact in the coming weeks.
