Party cites BJP MP Anurag Thakur’s claim of fraudulent voting

August 13, 2025 — In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, the Indian National Congress has formally urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to annul the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, citing allegations of electoral malpractice.

The move follows recent remarks by BJP MP Anurag Thakur, who claimed there were instances of fraudulent voting during the polls. Congress leaders argued that the admission by a senior member of the ruling party calls into question the integrity of the electoral process.

In a statement, the Congress leadership asserted that such allegations cannot be ignored and demanded a thorough investigation into the claims. The party also called for greater transparency in future elections, including enhanced use of technology and independent monitoring mechanisms.

The BJP, however, dismissed the opposition’s demand as political posturing, insisting that India’s electoral process remains robust and credible.

This development comes amid ongoing political confrontations over governance, economic challenges, and foreign policy, further intensifying the already polarized environment in the country.
