New Delhi — Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reiterated the Modi government’s commitment to eliminating the drug menace from India, calling it a threat to both national security and the country’s youth.
Speaking at an anti-narcotics event, Shah said that the fight against drugs is not limited to law enforcement but extends to safeguarding India’s future generations. He emphasized that drug trafficking networks are often linked to organized crime and terrorism, making the crackdown a matter of national importance.
“The government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is determined to make India free from the grip of drugs. This is not just a campaign but a mission to secure the future of our youth and protect society from destruction,” Shah declared.
He highlighted measures already taken, including tighter surveillance along borders, enhanced coordination between central and state agencies, and international cooperation to disrupt cross-border trafficking routes. The government has also been investing in rehabilitation programs and awareness campaigns aimed at prevention.
Shah urged citizens, especially young people, to join the movement against drugs by spreading awareness and rejecting the influence of narcotics. “This fight cannot be won by the government alone. Society must rise together against this evil,” he said.
Analysts note that the government’s renewed focus on narcotics comes at a time when concerns about addiction and trafficking are growing in several parts of the country. The push is being seen as part of the broader effort to strengthen internal security while promoting youth development.
